- os efeitos dos debates na percepção das qualidades pessoais dos candidatos são grandes, mas os efeitos na percepção da competência dos candidatos é reduzida. Há quem chame a isto efeitos na percepção dos atributos estilísticos em vez dos atributos políticos*;
- através dos mecanismos anteriores, os debates influenciam o comportamento de voto, especialmente quando as diferenças entre os candidatos do ponto de vista político e ideológico são reduzidas;
- efeitos maiores quando nenhum dos candidatos é o "incumbent" (já que, para este, os eleitores já tiveram tempo para formar uma imagem mais cristalizada).
